Over time, our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks and discoloration. When restoring these teeth, our first choice is to perform a simple filling or to apply bonding to the tooth; however, if the tooth has experienced advanced decay or deterioration, it will require a more comprehensive restoration known as a dental crown. A dental crown, which is sometimes referred to as a “cap,” is used to save the damaged tooth by reinforcing it and preventing future decay.

If you do require a dental crown, there is no need to worry as the procedure requires just two short, painless visits to our office. At the first visit, we file down the tooth so that the crown can be placed over it. You will be given an anesthetic before this part of the procedure to ensure complete comfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, we take an impression or mold of the tooth, as well as the surrounding teeth. This mold is then sent to our team of world-class ceramists who will fabricate your new crown, ensuring a seamless fit and natural appearance that will complement the surrounding teeth. At 201 Dental Care, our crowns are made by a team of world-class ceramists using only the finest materials. In fact, all of the crowns placed in our office are either all porcelain or porcelain-fused to a precious metal. Before you leave, we will fit you with a temporary crown made in our office to ensure your comfort prior to the installation of your permanent crown.

The finished product will arrive back in our office within 7 to 10 days, at which time Dr. Jessica Gorelik will fit and install the permanent crown. We will remove the temporary crown and then bond the permanent crown. When you look in the mirror, you will be amazed to see a rejuvenated, natural smile. Crowns are highly durable, lasting 10 to 15 years. Your dental crown will enable you to enjoy the same form, function and aesthetics of your natural teeth and should be cared for as you would any of your other teeth with regular brushing and flossing.
